Why do food banks require a referral?

It's important to us that people get help with the underlying reasons why they might be struggling to afford food. This could be to do with debt, benefits, housing, mental health, domestic abuse, or other reasons. The referral process helps to ensure that people can be connected with the right help, to get them back on your feet, so that they do not need to use the food banks in the long term.

How long does it take to get support?

We encourage people to think ahead and not run out of food completely before seeking help. We aim to provide food the same day or the next day (depending on what time a referral is made, and the circumstances). We provide crisis food support for genuine emergencies.

Can I have my food delivered?

Unfortunately, we cannot usually offer delivery of food so you will need to arrange to collect your food parcel from the food bank. If you can't do it yourself, you can arrange for someone else to do it for you. If you are being referred by an agency such as social services, they might be able to pick up for you.
